Access to the Woldae stone platform in front of Geunjeongjeon Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace will be restricted from September 2 to October 31, 2026.
Geunjeongjeon Hall is the main throne hall of Gyeongbokgung Palace. Important state ceremonies and official events were held here during the Joseon Dynasty. Inside the hall, the royal throne stands in front of the Irworobongdo, the traditional painting of the sun, moon and five peaks.
Visitors are normally able to climb the Woldae platform and view the throne and interior through the hall’s open doorways. During the restriction period, however, visitors will not be able to go onto the platform or approach the doorways for a close view of the interior.
The courtyard will remain accessible, and visitors can still view and photograph the exterior of Geunjeongjeon Hall from the courtyard.

If you are planning to visit Gyeongbokgung Palace this fall, please be aware that the throne and interior of Geunjeongjeon Hall will be difficult to see clearly from the courtyard.
